Walter L. Soulliard

Walter L. Soulliard, 87, formerly of Oxford, died on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Home. He was the husband of the late Alice Hagy Soulliard who died in 2000. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late William H. and Florence Conover Soulliard. He graduated from the Kennet High School an attended West Chester University. He was employed by the former Lukens Steel Co. as a Lab Foreman retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Oxford United Presbyterian Church where he served on the committee that raised funds to rebuild the church steeple and he also coached the church basketball team. He was a member of the Union Fire Company, where he served as Captain on the Rescue Squad. He was a life member of the Oxford Masonic Lodge #353 F&AM and was the first advisor to the Oxford Demolay. He was a charter member of the Oxford Fraternal Order of the Eagles, served on the county council, served with Boy Scouts of America, helped start the first Summer Basketball league at Oxford High School, coached where he served at the polls, worked for Red Cross Blood drives, and served on County Board of Parks and Recreation. He also coached baseball Babe Ruth League and was the first soccer coach at Lincoln University.

He is survived by on son, Walter (Chuck) L. Soulliard Jr. of Quarryville and one daughter, Judy S. wife of Donald L. McPherson, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother William.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 10th, 2004 at 11:00 AM from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg. Interment will follow at the Upper Octorara Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to the time of the service. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Oxford Masonic Lodge #353 F&AM at 10:45 AM.
